SEPT-ÎLES, March 16, 2017 – In the presence of many Quebec economic leaders, Aluminerie Alouette was nominated as a finalist for the Mercuriades Awards earlier Thursday in Montreal. The award, presented by the Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec (FCCQ), recognizes the company and its team for excellence in the Sustainable Development Strategy category.

Aluminerie Alouette has promoted a sustainable development approach since it began its operations more than 25 years ago, and it places environmental, social and economic matters at the core of its strategy. Over the years, this has resulted in a commitment and a presence strongly rooted in the community, sustained efforts to reduce the environmental footprint, and an on-going partnership with regional businesses. “Sustainable development has always been part of our DNA. Our innovative, proactive team has adapted quickly to the major changes that have affected the aluminum industry in the past few years. We’ve done so while keeping in mind the sustainability of the plant and the community,” says President and CEO Claude Boulanger.

The winners will be unveiled on April 24 at the Mercuriades Awards Gala, and Aluminerie Alouette will find out whether it has won the prestigious business competition for the fourth time in its history. It has been awarded the highly prized Mercure trophy three times: 2001 (Human Resources Training and Development), 2005 (Investment Project) and 2008 (Industrial and Process Production).
