Aluminerie Alouette obtains ASI Performance Standard certification

SEPT-ÎLES, July 22, 2020 – Aluminerie Alouette announces that it has been successfully certified against ASI Performance Standard for its aluminium production operations in Sept-Îles.

The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) program is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain. The independent third-party audit of the Aluminerie Alouette plant was carried out on December 2019 by BNQ.

Michel Huot, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aluminerie Alouette, stated that this certification, valid for three years, demonstrates that the aluminium produced in Sept-Îles meets the principles of sustainable development. « Alouette has always subscribed to the principles of sustainable development, an integral part of its mission statement. The daily commitment of all employees helps maintain world-class results, particularly in environmental matters. Once again, Alouette is proud to be among the world leaders in this regard ».

« We congratulate Aluminerie Alouette on its ASI Performance Standard certification. This certification is significant not only due to the company’s annual production capacity, but also because the consortium behind the company includes several certified ASI Members, further demonstrating the great collaborative spirit of our Members to create a responsible aluminium value chain », said Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
