Achievements

As a modern and responsible corporate citizen, Alouette is constantly seeking ways to protect the environment. Our employees’ involvement, positive vision and inventive spirit make them precious allies in this area.

Doing more with less

Human energy is the key to Alouette’s performance and efficiency. The Company also strives to optimize its use of electrical energy. Most of this power is hydroelectric, and is used for the electrolytic process. Between 1995 and 2000, Alouette reduced its specific energy consumption by 7%, while boosting its metal production by 12% over the same period. It uses close to 13,000 kilowatt-hours of power (DC) to produce a ton of aluminum — one of the best performances by a global aluminum producer.

Better air quality

Controlling air pollutants at source is an ongoing priority for Alouette. Effective control of emissions demands high-performance flue gas treatment equipment. Alouette's state-of-the-art technology provides a better-than-99% gas-scrubbing rate for dust and fluorides. Between 1995 and 2000, total greenhouse gas emissions were reduced by 30%.

Hand-in-hand

Alouette and its employees believe in protecting the environment on the St. Lawrence North Shore and around the world. Through individual and group action we can make a real difference and preserve our shared natural heritage.
