Aluminerie Alouette demystifies scrubbing centres

SEPT-ÎLES, December 18, 2014 — At a technical meeting with representatives from environmental organizations and the media, Aluminerie Alouette presented the actions that it is taking to control atmospheric emissions. More specifically, the company explained how its gas and fume treatment centres work. The guests also had the opportunity to visit some of the company’s cutting-edge facilities.

For the occasion, Alouette President and CEO Claude Boulanger spoke about the extent to which the company — Sept-Îles’ largest employer — is a responsible corporate citizen. “Minimizing our environmental footprint is a responsibility that all of our employees share and work towards, day after day,” he said.

At the meeting, Sébastien Scherrer, Manager, Health, Safety and Environment, and his colleague, Jean-Pierre Castilloux, Manager, Material Handling and Gas Treatment Centers, presented the concrete actions that Aluminerie Alouette is taking to manage atmospheric emissions effectively. “The fluoride and dust scrubbing equipment consistently achieves an efficiency rate of more than 99%, which is a world class result,” said Mr. Scherrer. The last item of business was a tour of the gas treatment centre, which gave the visitors a valuable opportunity to exchange and share.

The results of Aluminerie Alouette’s most recent sustainable development report (2013), titled “A Company in Motion”, are available online. They show the company’s excellent performance in a number of areas. The general public is welcome to consult the report’s different sections: People and Culture; Health and Safety, Environment; Operational Excellence; Shareholders, Community and Partners; and Financial Excellence.
