$150,000 for local community aid

SEPT-ÎLES, November 30, 2020 – In the midst of the pandemic, Michel Huot, President and Chief Executive Officer of Aluminerie Alouette, in collaboration with the company’s employees, is pleased to announce a special $150,000 donation to Centraide Duplessis, a charity that helps dozens of other community organizations from Pointe-aux-Anglais to Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon, including the northern municipalities and Anticosti Island.

The donation comes following the company’s annual charity drive, during which hundreds of Aluminerie Alouette employees generously committed to contributing just over $50,000 in payroll deductions. As per tradition, the company matched these donations, bringing the amount up to $100,000. With the current state of the world affecting all areas of society, but especially community organizations, Aluminerie Alouette decided to increase its support for Centraide Duplessis by another $50,000.

“Thanks to our committed team here at Aluminerie Alouette, we were able to continue our operations despite the public health situation. Others in our community are going through more difficult times, so we were happy to answer the call on this occasion,” said Huot. With one month left until Christmas, the large sum could not have come at a better time for the charity. “Aluminerie Alouette has been a major partner in our fundraising for many years, and their team’s efforts have always made a big difference. The company’s generosity and that of its employees never ceases to amaze us. This year more than ever, the $50,000 increase is a godsend for the organizations that will benefit from it,” said Joannie Francoeur-Côté, Executive Director of Centraide Duplessis.

Since the early 2000s, the Sept-Îles smelter has donated more than $ 2,250,000 to Centraide Duplessis, helping them to feed, clothe and house those in need, to counter social isolation in elderly and disabled people, to encourage volunteering and to support the success of young people in a variety of ways.
